If you are a golfer you might notice on the PGA and LPGA tours that professional golfers all swing in a similar way. Watching them on television they seem to have the perfect golf swing. Each individual’s swing looks different, but they all share the same basic elements. First is the grip, next is the aim and then the set up. With much practice, eventually your swings start to repeat themselves. Even if you can manage to make a swing look funny or unconventional, the actual mechanics of a perfect golf swing will stay the same.
The golf swing is a simple procedure, and one that is often made overly complicated by players. First, a perfect golf swing must have good rhythm. You cannot make an accurate forward swing unless you take your time with the rhythm and motion. If your swing is too fast back then the club and body are working against each other. Remember that your objective is to create speed on the downsizing, not the back swing. A fast back swing will mess up the motion and rhythm of a shot and give most of the power to the hands. For better rhythm and motion take the club away slowly.
Next, a good back swing should start with your arms not your hands. As the club starts back, your left shoulder and hips should turn naturally so that your weight can transfer to the right side. The hands should start to set at about waist high. As the club rises to the top, the shoulders continue to turn. It is important to have your hands set not broken down. If you over swing at the top, it might create negative club speed and cause a not so perfect golf swing.
Thirdly, when you downsize your objective is to return the club head to the ball with maximum—but controllable—speed. Too hard of a downsizing can also cause a perfect golf swing to go wrong. Players who pull with their left arm from the top will have all their whole body working in the shot and will likely hit a more consistent swing. Players who tries and lead the downsizing with the left side however might slide ahead of the ball upon impact and ruin a near perfect golf swing.
Finally, in completing a swing you must have a good high finish. The clubface needs to stay square for several inches after impact in order to get a ball to fly. In addition, all that weight that you transferred to the right side in the back swing, must now transfer to the left side. A good finish will see your right knee facing the target, your right foot up so that all spikes are visible and your hands high and close to your left ear.
So go out there and hit a perfect golf swing! If anyone asks you how you did it, be sure to tell them that it’s just natural talent.
Anyone who spends time on the golf course is looking for the perfect golf swing. Some argue that there is no such thing but after witnessing some of the pros at work I would have to differ. The skill required for this game is quite imposing if you really think about it. Nevertheless, the perfect golf swing is attainable.
First of all we have to recognize that golf is a game that is as intellectual as it is physical. My husband describes it as a game of chess that involves gross motor skills. He has spent a lot of hours trying to develop the perfect golf swing but I think that his approach is all wrong.
Even though he recognizes the cognitive aspects of the game he seems to forget about them when he hits the golf ball. He also seems to think that the perfect golf swing is a complete myth that has been developed to torture golfers around the world. However, he is looking at the whole thing backwards. So are many other golfers.
Many professionals would agree that there is no such thing as a perfect golf swing. This elusive skill has seemed to develop a personality. Many people seek it to no avail and many decide to write it off as a myth so they can sleep at night. Sound dramatic? Well, it is to an avid golfer.
Part of the appeal of the game is its challenging nature. The combination of physical and mental control is great with the feat of hitting the ball on target. Many people look to the perfect golf swing as a personification of the challenge. It is no longer an action, but a kind of Holy Grail for the golfing community.
It is important to recognize that the perfect golf swing is fundamentally an action. Sometimes thinking too much can actually have an adverse effect on your swing. Perhaps the best way to achieve the perfect golf swing is to quit obsessing over it.
When we think too much we hinder our own progress. Many golfers look at the game as a practice in control but this very quest for control might be what is keeping you from the elusive swing. You may find that part of the art of combining the mind and the body in the perfect golf swing has a lot to do with letting go instead of controlling.
Not everyone is meant to be on the fairway. I am one of those individuals who fairs better in the lounge than on the course. Learning to play golf was never on my list of things that I would love to accomplish. However, being married to an avid golfer nudged me in the direction of the greens.
My husband has no idea why learning to play golf is such an unappealing task for me. I am Scottish which makes him seem to think that the sport is in my blood. Nothing is further from the truth. I avoid learning to play golf at all cost. Even when I am part of an outing event I still stay away from the clubs.
The annual golf outing for Rumor’s Bar and Grill falls in the month of May. I use the event to raise money for autism research. The owner of Rumor’s is great. His favorite cook on staff is a young autistic man who really knows his way around the kitchen. I mentioned that I wanted to get out of learning to play golf even though I signed up to play.
Fortunately, the person who runs the annual event came up with a great idea that would require a selfless person to give up her spot on the greens to raise money for autism research. I got out of learning to play golf but I did get stuck sitting in a golf cart for eight hours. Believe me, it was worth it.
My job was to collect money for a drawing for a Big Bertha club that they were giving away for our cause. Part of the drawing involved the person’s ability to hit the ball closest to the flag on the 18th hole. Individuals who got closer received more tickets for the drawing. Learning to play golf would not have been nearly as much fun as watching everyone try to get a hole in one.
Actually, it was really boring but the entire sport is boring to me all the way around. That is until my husband showed up wearing a kilt. He looked hilarious and it really made my day. He said that he would wear the crazy outfit again if I would take some golf lessons. Learning to play golf did seem a little more appealing after all. If was willing to dress for the event I should at least give it a try.
When my husband took up golf, I was happy to get him out from underneath my feet. There is nothing worse than a bored husband roaming around the house. They either bug you to death about finding something to do, or they end up fixing things that don’t need fixed. Once he started playing golf, it was much more peaceful in my home. What surprised me was that I became interested in learning how to play, so he took me to the driving range for some beginners golf lessons. I was not prepared for the frustration.
What you don’t realize about beginners golf is that it might take you forever just to figure out how to stand and hold the club correctly. Forget about trying to get that ball into the hole, you have a long way to go before you can attempt that, at least if you are as bad as I am. Once I finally got the stance right, I swung. He said I had a good slice, but I guess I’ll just have to take his word for it. What was even more disheartening were the children around me also trying out beginners golf. They were so much better than I was.
Beginners golf isn’t all about the stance and the swing though. Once you kind of get the hang of that, you then can worry about where your ball is going. My husband informed me that I had to hit the putt-putt course, and this was the second part of beginners golf that would have me frustrated. It seems so easy to hit the little white ball, but in reality it is very hard to get it to go where you want. You misjudge your own strength. You’d be surprised where those balls can go if you swing too hard.
The biggest beginners golf less on I learned was that I am not as patient as I thought I was. In fact, I was filled with frustration. I can’t imagine why anyone thinks golf is relaxing, and I would imagine my stress levels would get worse, not better, if I continued to play. I suppose I should give it another go, however, because perhaps once you get past beginners golf you will find more fun in the game. Until then, I will continue to dream of little white balls and plot my revenge against that stupid windmill that just wouldn’t let my ball go through.
I am totally against of racial discrimination and I believe that your talent can help you to stand against all odds.
As a golfer and cultural icon, there is at least one thing Tiger Woods can't do. He can't change the complexion of competitive golf, which is as white today as it was when he joined the PGA Tour 11 years ago.
The racial diversity that people expected is yet to materialize. Woods remains the only African-American on the PGA Tour.
I believe that racial discrimination can't stop a talented player from getting fame and Tiger Woods is the most valid example of this.
So when you are all set to play, don't think about your complexion, just go, play and enjoy the game thoroughly …
In Kenya, now you can see golf as a part of the curriculum in every school. Ministers are in favor of introducing golf in schools. That augers well for the country. According to Maina Kamanda, Sports Minister, Kenya, the government of Kenya will support any attempts to introduce golf in schools. Which means that now golf will not be only the rich man's sport.
This effort of the ministers and all those, who want to introduce golf in schools, will go a long way in making it more popular and in discarding the notion that golf is only the rich man's sport.
Putting up a public golf course is also in the pipeline. The government has also made a promise to the union to give them a title deed for a parcel of land at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) for the development of a public golf course.
Seeing these developments, I am sure that we will soon see a lot of Kenyans entering golf and giving competition to each other.

Hitting the perfect shot and playing in the warm sun are associated with golf, and these are just a few things I am in love with.
Golfing is a treat for both the mind and the body, not speaking of the risk of injury to the bones, muscles or joints. These are the real 'joy killers'. That is why the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) recommends a few proper techniques to prevent golf-related injuries.
These are as follows:
- If you are new to golf, then take lessons and begin participating in the sport gradually.
- Don't practice on rubber mats. If possible, practice on real turf.
- Wear a comfortable outfit and appropriate golf shoes. Shoes with short cleats are the best.
- Build your forearm muscles with the help of proper exercises.
- Spend 5-10 minutes in the clubhouse stretching, before going out to play. Focus on the lower back, shoulders and forearms. Don't forget to warm up.
- While lifting your bag, use proper back mechanics.
- Never hunch over the ball too much. it may make you prone to neck strain and rotator cuff tendinitis.
- Keep your pelvis as level as possible, throughout the swing.
- Look around to avoid unknowingly hitting objects or bystanders, before you swing.
If you keep all this in your mind, you will be able to avoid maximum injuries related to golf.
Between games, golfers might want to swing over to the White River Gallery in downtown Montague to size up the artwork and antique equipment assembled for 'Tee Time'.
Gallery artists will present a display of artwork about the game and the passion of golf. Many member artists made work specifically for the exhibit. The auction is a fund-raiser for the gallery, which is a division of the nonprofit Arts Council of White Lake and Nuveen Community Center for the Arts.
Well I really want to be a part of this auction as the money collected here will be used for all the good reasons. So, why to skip this opportunity to do some good …
I am going, do you wanna come?
Have you ever imagined yourself enjoying skiing and golf on the same mountain? No. I have not gone mad!
The Chateau Whistler Golf Club in British Columbia has made it possible for you to enjoy both skiing and golf on the same mountain and on the same day. The day, which has become popular since its inception, is called the Whistler Extreme Day.
While the majesty and grandeurs of the mountains will enthrall you while you ski, the Robert Trent Jones Jr. design and Canadian scenery will help soothe your nerves while you play golf.
Many people consider golf a low-level physical activity, so chances of injuries are few and far between. But, things are completely opposite of what they think. There is a potential risk of incurring serious injuries to the spine, knee, elbow, hip or wrist, while playing golf.
So, here are some exercises to strengthen your body.
Elbow:
Squeezing a tennis ball for five minutes will go a long way in strengthening your forearm muscles. Also do wrist curls and reverse wrist curls.
Lower back:
Rowing and pull-downs will help you avoid the lower back pain. So do three sets of 10 repetitions, at least three times a week.
If you follow these exercises, then I can assure you that you would have a great elbow and a great lower back. So, do the exercise and enjoy golf!
Why do you play golf? For pleasure, to soothe yourself or just like that. What if you were asked to play golf for some social cause? If you are ready to help some needy people by playing the game you love then I am ready to provide you the opportunity for the same.
Holy Cross Church is hosting the Annual Golf Tournament at the Easton Country Club. The fee is $95 per golfer which in turn would be used for the charity purpose.
This is a brilliant opportunity to be a part of a noble cause. I am all set for it. What about you?
Thank God! I don't play golf and I really don't wanna learn it. Wanna know the reason?
Shane Cleveland, golf manager at Santee National Golf Club, revealed that golf is a primary revenue source (about 70 percent) for the club.
Golf brings in people to stay for more days in accommodations and tends to keep them longer. If people stay in for a longer duration then it will in turn generate more revenue for the club.
So, if you are planning to take up golf just beware! It might not be an inexpensive pleasure.
Golf lost its first father, Earl Woods, and we should all take a minute to remember him.
I don't really know a lot about the man. But what I know about him was that he was a soldier. And that he trained his fourth off-spring Tiger Woods, to become a world champion in golf.
He nurtured and encouraged his son without becoming an overbearing and pushy 'Sports Dad'. He recognized Tiger's genius and found a way to maximize it.
Seeing this, I am sure that the children of different sports-person would pray to Lord that they get dads like Earl Woods.
Are you planning to join the nearest golf club and enjoy the game thereon? Have you ever played golf earlier? What level do you rate yourself on?
Why am I asking you all this is because the biggest single mistake that average players make is that they don't prepare properly.
I believe that if you can't prepare properly than don't even think of playing golf. Just follow a warm up session and then play. You are sure to enjoy more.
So, get set and then go!
